What We Do

WHAT WE DO

The fan club started on February 24, 1995, to be a place where fans of all ages of the great Jackie Chan can learn more about him and his movies, find out what he's doing, meet fellow Chan Fans, and most importantly, a way of thanking Jackie for all he has done for us. In the time since we started, we have had members in twenty three countries, six continents, 50 states, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico. Jackie has stated that the purpose of his fan clubs is to promote international friendship and understanding through a common interest.

    • The fan club makes a contribution to an organization whose efforts go to promote international friendship and understanding as our gift to Jackie at Christmas time and for his birthday. The Portland Classical Chinese Garden has been the recipient of all of our Christmas/Holiday and Birthday gifts to Jackie. The fan club was part of the effort to build an authentic Suzhou urban-style Chinese garden in Portland. Until September 14, 2000, there wasn't an authentic uban-situated Chinese clasical garden in the United States. The garden in Portland was made in cooperation with its sister city Suzhou in the People's Republic of China.

As of 2003, the Jackie Chan Fan Club, USA has donated approximately $17,000 to the Portland Classical Chinese Garden. We have sponsored a tree and a smaller garden inside the Garden, as well as contributed to childrens programs and materials. In February, 2003 we were a sponsor of the children's Lantern Parade, part the Portland Classical Chinese Garden Chinese New Year festivities. For more details on the Portland Classical Chinese Garden, please visit our pages on the garden and visit their home page as well.
    • Occasionally we do reviews of books, films and other Hong Kong and Jackie Chan related items.

    • Sometimes we are able to arrange special events for members to meet Jackie. (We do not promise that you can meet Jackie if you join our fan club. That's not why you should join our or any fan club. You do it because you love him and want to show your support.) That said, we have had lots of opportunities to meet Jackie personally and I will work hard to see to it that those opportunities continue.

The fan club has arranged several tours to see Jackie at special fan club events. Our trips have included Hong Kong, Hawaii, Las Vegas, Toronto, and Bangkok.
    • We also have merchandize that we sell. Eventually, more items will be online for purchase. But many of our members are not online, so it is difficult to sell things only to web based fans. On the other hand, sometimes we only have a very few items, selling them through the newsletter is difficult too because they might sell out too soon.

SEND IN YOUR CONTRIBUTION FOR JACKIE'S BIRTHDAY GIFT, WHICH WE WILL DONATE TO THE PORTLAND CLASSICAL CHINESE GARDEN.

This year (2004) we celebrated our Tenth Annual USA Jackie Chan Birthday Party. A photo from that party is now gracing our home page.

Click for details of our Seventh Annual party held on April 7, 2001, or Click for news about the Eighth Annual party, April 6, 2002.

Jackie is holding a special mug made for supporters of the Portland Classical Chinese Garden. This mug was given to Jackie by the Garden and was presented to him in Hong Kong during the fan club visit to the set of GORGEOUS on December 4, 1998
